POLAND — Town Clerk Judy Jordan Akers was presented with the Excelsior Grange Community Citizen Award at a Aug. 26 gathering at the 1231 Maine St. hall with more than 75 people in attendance. She was chosen for the award because of her 48 years of outstanding service to the town of Poland.

Akers also was the 2022 recipient of the Maine Municipal Association’s Ethel N. Kelly award for distinguished public service, according to a news release from Steve Verrill with the Grange.

Those in attendance offering words of praise and congratulations were Poland Select Board members Maryanne Hawkes, Jane Pentheny and Stan Tetenmen. Also Poland Town Manager Matt Garside, State Rep. David Boyer, State Sen. Eric Brakey and former Selectman Leo Ferland Jr.

The Poland Busy Bees assisted with hosting the event and meal following the presentation.
