Woodbury Cole Titcomb

HOLDEN, Mass. – Woodbury Cole Titcomb, former President Northeast Banks, known to all as “Woodie,” passed away on Aug. 23, 2023, at the age of 100 years at his home in Holden, Mass., from natural causes common to advanced age.

He was a resident of Auburn, Maine, from 1967 to 1978 when he was President and CEO of First-Manufacturers National Bank of Lewiston, subsequently restructured as Northeast Bank of Lewiston, a shareholder of Northeast Bankshares Association, Inc.

A daughter, Jane Titcomb of Holden Mass. and her children, Olivia and Isabelle; and his son, Jay, and his wife, Gloria (Romero) Titcomb, and their children, Michael, Philip, and Anna, survive him. In recent years, Woodie was frequently accompanied by Karen Donovan of Wellesley, Mass. After 57 years of marriage, his wife, Florence (Pierce) Titcomb, predeceased him in 2003.

Woodie was President and CEO of Peoples (Savings) Bank, later Peoples Bancorp of Worcester, Inc., from 1978 to 1994. In Worcester, Mass., Woodie led “one of the best management teams” of any New England bank,” stated The Wall Street Journal, Feb. 19, 1991.

In 1994, Peoples was sold to Shawmut National Bank at a premium, an excellent return to shareholders, the high achievement of Woodie’s banking career.

Visiting hours for Mr. Titcomb will be held at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, Mass. from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7. His burial will be private.
