The Reading Fightin Phils scored six runs in the first inning, including two home runs off starter C.J. Liu, and went on to a 6-3 victory Tuesday night against the visiting Portland Sea Dogs.

Portland didn’t have a hit until the sixth inning and finished with five.

The Sea Dogs scored in the seventh on Blaze Jordan’s double, a wild pitch and Kyle Teel’s single. They added two in the eighth, both scoring on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice out.

Teel and Roman Anthony, two highly regarded Red Sox propects playing their first Double-A game, each went 1 for 4.

SPAIN COACH: The coach of Spain’s World Cup-winning women’s soccer team was fired, less than three weeks after the victory celebration that led to the suspension of the country’s soccer federation president for kissing a player.

The Spanish soccer federation offered no immediate explanation for the dismissal and mostly praised Jorge Vilda, saying he was “key to the notable growth of women’s soccer” and thanking him for leading the national team to the World Cup title and to No. 2 in the FIFA rankings — its highest ever position.

MLS: Robin Fraser is out as the Colorado Rapids’ coach with the team languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference.

BOLIVIA: The country’s soccer federation canceled two professional tournaments due to an alleged scheme of match-fixing involving referees, players and club executives.

BASKETBALL

NBA: New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III, a 2021 first-round draft choice who emerged as a frequent starter and reliable scorer last season, injured the meniscus in his left knee while working out at team headquarters.

Murphy, who played at Virginia and is among New Orleans’ top 3-point shooters, averaged 14.5 points per game last season, his second in the NBA.

WNBA: Kahleah Copper scored 25 points, Marina Mabrey and Courtney Williams each added 17 points and the visiting Chicago Sky defeated the Indiana Fever, 96-69.

Chicago (16-22) is tied for eighth place with Los Angeles, which lost to the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. The Sky, who play Minnesota and Connecticut later this week, hold the tiebreaker with the Sparks after winning three of their four matchups this season.

CYCLING

SPANISH VUELTA: American rider Sepp Kuss held on to the overall lead despite finishing 13th in an individual time trial won by Filippo Ganna.

Ganna picked up his first-ever win in Spain as the Vuelta returned from a rest day to kick off its second week with a 16-mile race against the clock in Valladolid.

HOCKEY

NHL: Domestic violence charges were dropped against Arizona Coyotes minority owner Andrew Barroway, who was arrested after a dispute with his wife in Colorado last spring.

The NHL suspended Barroway indefinitely on March 23 after police said a verbal altercation between him and his wife turned physical. Online court records showed Barroway was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault strangulation, a felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

COLLEGES

AP TOP 25: Duke’s 28-7 win over Clemson on Monday night caused the nationwide panel of Top 25 football poll voters to put the Blue Devils at No. 21 in the new poll.

It’s the first time Duke’s been in the Top 25 since September 2018 and its highest ranking since No. 19 in November 2014.

The loss led to Clemson dropping 16 spots in the AP poll to No. 25.
