Susan E. (Akerley) Dickinson

STETSON – Susan E. (Akerley) Dickinson, 80, of Stetson, died Aug. 21, 2023 from cancer, at home, surrounded by family.

Born in Lewiston Aug. 13, 1943 to parents Basil M. Akerley and Helen M. Gibb Akerley. Susan was a 1961 graduate from Edward Little and later went on to study at NorthEastern University from 1972-1975. Susan worked most of her life in the Hospitality Industry. When Susan wasn’t working she enjoyed skydiving, motorcycles and trucking across the country with her husband of 46 years, Ray S. Dickenson.

When Susan retired she found herself taking in and caring for abandoned cats, a dog and a horse. She also loved to garden, cook and volunteer at the local food pantry.

Susan is survived by her husband, Ray Dickinson; her daughter, Kelly L. Akerley, stepdaughter, Pam Bell and stepsons John and James Dickinson; and she was a “Bubbie” to eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Leland Akerley and his wife Pat, brothers Kendall Akerley and David Akerley along with sisters-in-law, Constance Akerley and Judy Akerley Adams.

Susan was predeceased by her parents Basil M. Akerley and Helen M. Gibb Akerley; brothers Gerald, Blaine, Russell and Gard Akerley.

There will be a service and gathering on Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. at 376 Lake St., Auburn.
