NORWAY — Megan MacGregor and Jill Piekut-Roy from the Glickman Family Library at the University of Southern Maine will present a talk called ‘The Wilde-Stein Club: The Start of Queer Liberation in Maine’ on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Norway Memorial Library.

October is LGBT History Month and American Archives Month.

The Wilde-Stein Club, named after literary figures Oscar Wilde and Gertrude Stein, was established 50 years ago in 1973. It was the first gay and lesbian club at the University of Maine.

Attendees will see copies of documents significant to the club and to Maine LGBT history from the Glickman Family Library archives. The group will then discuss the documents to decide which should be included in a timeline of events.

Norway Memorial Library is located at 258 Main Street in Norway. Call 743-5309, ext. 1, or visit the library’s information desk to register by October 17.
