Bertha “Betty” Cote Clukey

LEWISTON – Bertha “Betty” Cote Clukey, 92, formerly of Mechanic Falls, passed away in Lewiston on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, after a period of declining health. She was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Lewiston, the daughter of Armand “Sam” and Rose Gagne Cote, and attended Lewiston schools.

She married Richard Clukey on Nov. 23, 1950, in Lewiston.

Betty did office work for L/A shoe shops, F Williams Heating Oil, Marcal Paper Mill, and Dr. Pierre Lachance until retiring in 1993 from WMTW.

She enjoyed working in her gardens, doing artwork , genealogy and hosting “Hat” parties for her family. Every party had a theme with matching hats. A very kind and generous person, she was always looking out for others before herself.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, husband Richard in 2016, son-in- law David R Nelson in 2014, brothers, Armand, Donald, and Felix Cote and sisters Connie Crump and Elaine Bosse.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Susan Grondin of Lewiston, Janet Nelson of Auburn, a grandson Scott Grondin and fiancé Sarah Stone of Eliot, Maine, and her cat Tristan.

Also surviving are her sister Evelyn DeBlois of Greene, brother Francis Cote and wife Laurie of Minot, brothers-in-law Marvin Crump of No Monmouth, Norman Bosse of Litchfield, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all the healthcare providers and agencies that provided care and support during this time.

A private burial will take place at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta.
