WEST PARIS — The West Paris Downhill Derby held its last race of the season on Saturday, September 9. Points are awarded for each race and after the last race of the summer the points are tallied.  The Points Champions for 2023 were Liam Holland – second place, Steven McCann – first place, and Liam Preo – third place.
If your child is interested in racing next year, racing is free to any child ages 7-14. Just come to registration between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on race day. Derby races are always on the second Saturday in July, August, and September.
If your child does not have a derby car and would like to race, there are cars available for them to use on a first-come, first-served basis.
A helmet and sneakers are required for racing. Want to race but you’re older than 14? The Downhill Derby would love to add the ‘Anything Goes’ races back into the schedule. If you have or would like to build a race car for the Anything Goes, feel free to bring it on race day.
Anything Goes races will be held after the regular derby races have been completed each race day. Anything Goes cars can be anything on wheels with steering and brakes, but no motor (no vehicles).
In the past Anything Goes cars have been built out of a canoe, a furnace, a BBQ grill, and a pool just to name a few! This is a great way for adults and older children to get in on the action.
