LEWISTON — Two people were sent to the hospital early Sunday afternoon after a street brawl near 177 Main St. in Lewiston, according to officials.
Two groups totaling 10 young adults came to blows when a member of one group recognized his stolen bicycle among the other group gathered in the area, according to Lt. Derrick St. Laurent of the Lewiston Police Department.
The fight escalated when several people began wielding weapons, including pipes, a tire iron and a baseball bat, St. Laurent said.
The two unnamed people who required medical care at the hospital suffered injuries not considered life-threatening. St. Laurent said the eight others involved in the fight had yet to be apprehended Sunday evening.
The investigation was ongoing, St. Laurent said, and charges are likely.
