MEXICO – Michael Leo Arsenault died at CMMC in Lewiston with family by his side.
He was born May 12, 1972, to Susan and Leo Arsenault in Rumford, Maine. During his lifetime, Mike faced struggles with diabetes and substance use disorder. His family was so proud when he stepped into recovery five years ago. As a young boy, Mike loved working with his hands. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together again, even a brand-new radio. Mike was an outdoor kid and that love of outdoors remained with him as he approached adulthood. His Dad taught him a love for hunting. Getting a BB gun was the first step and attending a hunter safety course. Mike couldn’t wait for the annual hunting trips with his Dad and uncles. Growing up, he also spent a lot of time with Grammy Rachel and Grampa Joe Lovejoy and they went on fishing trips to Stetson Land. Grampa Joe let him drive the truck while on the old camp roads. Mike also spent a lot of time fishing in Oquossic with his best friend Daryl and Dwight and Andrea Gurney. At an early age, Mike played little league, floor hockey, and basketball at the Greater Rumford Community Center. As a student, he attended Mexico High School and was in the first class to graduate from Mountain Valley High School. As a Falcon, Mike was not only a three star athlete, but was on a ‘gold ball winning’ basketball team. It’s no surprise that Mike would hold jobs that involved using his hands and working outside. He mainly worked construction.
The light of Mike’s life was the birth of his daughter. He loved attending her basketball games, especially watching her quick little feet run frantically around the court. Two words best sum up Mike- humble and kind. He didn’t want for much. Family was his world. When he did things for others, he wasn’t looking for recognition. Even as sick as he was battling diabetes, it was important to him to help others when he could.
