BATH — Kennebec Estuary Land Trust plans to offer a free Zoom lecture at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, to learn about jumping worms and how to identify them in one’s garden.
Jumping worms, also known as Snake Worms, are an invasive species that can impact local gardens and ecosystem by rapidly changing soil composition and plant communities.

The trust will host entomologist Brittany Schappach from Maine Forest Service to learn about the history, biology, forest impacts and management of invasive jumping worms in Maine, according to a news release from Haley Campbell with the trust.
Following the virtual lecture, the trust will host Learning Conversation: How to Manage Jumping Worms in your Garden at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Freight Shed, 27 Commercial St.
The story will be told of how trust members discovered the worms in the community garden’s raised beds. Participants are welcomed and encouraged to share experiences, best practices, and questions in a community learning conversation.
Registration is free and required in order to receive the Zoom link for the Oct. 17 presentation or to join the Oct. 24 learning conversation.
