MEXICO – Judith Ann Roy, 83, died Saturday Oct. 7, 2023. She was born in Rumford on Oct. 2, 1940. Judy was one of nine children to Doris and Herbert Swett of Mexico.
Judy met the love of her life Billy Roy while playing cribbage, and married May 24, 1958. They built their dream home in Mexico, Maine.
Judy’s greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She was a serving member of the community throughout her life: Girl Scout Leader, coached little league, president of Oakdale women’s golf league, member of the board of directors at Oakdale, and on the parish council for St Theresa’s Church.
You’d often find her cooking from scratch for family events, most known for her famous homemade bread. She enjoyed camping in Maine with family, playing cards, and golfing. She won the President’s Cup in golf three times. Judy worked as a cook for SAD 43 for 21 years.
After retirement, they went on a new adventure to Tarpon Springs, Fla. in 1999. The Stonehedge community became an extension of her family. Judy learned to play bridge and had weekly card nights. She developed meaningful relationships traveling abroad and to each other’s home states yearly.
Judy is survived by her children, daughter Renee Derouche and husband James Derouche, son Chris Roy; grandkids Michelle and Kevin Furbush, Valerie Derouche, Craig Derouche and Morgan Pooler, Ryan and Ashley Roy, and Megan Roy; great grandkids, Brooklyn, Harper, Isaac, Cooper, Will, and Colt; her remaining sisters Jenny and Bob Cushman and Margie Swett.
She was predeceased by Doris and Herbert Swett, sisters, Joan, Hazel, and Grace, brothers Forest, Frank, and Preston, children Randall and Jonathan Roy.
