Joyce R. Colby

SOUTH PARIS – Joyce Anne (Rolfe) Colby, 87, of South Paris passed away on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at her home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was born in Harrison on Feb. 9, 1936, the daughter of Rex and Ethel (Allen) Rolfe. She graduated from High School in 1955. She married Oayma J. Colby Jr. (Buddy) on Dec. 29, 1956 and they were happily married for 65 years.

Joyce was the co-owner/operator of Colby’s Garage in South Paris for more than 60 years working side by side with her husband. Joyce was an avid supporter and volunteer for the First Congregational Church in South Paris where she was a member of the Thalian Club and spent many hours working in the kitchen and making crafts for the annual church fair. She also served as a girl scout leader for a number of years when her girls were growing up. She loved watching sports, especially baseball, and was a loyal Red Sox fan. In her earlier years she enjoyed skiing, traveling, going to camp, smelting and snowmobiling with her husband and family. More recently she enjoyed quilting, gardening, bird watching and just spending time with her family.

Joyce is survived by her three daughters Debra Martin and husband Kevin of South Paris, Daphne Chaplin and husband Dana of Harrison and Diana McLaughlin and husband William of South Paris; six grandchildren, Deanna Bisbee, Joshua Chaplin and wife Chelsey, Michele Bisbee, Amanda Tardiff and husband Jeremy, Dyllon McLaughlin and wife Candice and Garrett McLaughlin; eight great grandchildren; a brother Rodney Rolfe of Norway; a brother-in-law Alden Colby of Penobscot. She was predeceased by her husband; parents; brother Edwin Rolfe; and sisters Phyllis Nadeau and Diana Rolfe.

As requested by Joyce there will be no Memorial services held. Graveside services will be held in the future at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris. The family thanks Beacon Hospice for their invaluable support over the last few months. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris.
