Yard Sauce – an acoustic, folk, and Americana Maine-based trio Submitted photo

A Shaker Meeting Room series benefit concert featuring Jeff Christmas, Chris Moore, and Mitch Reed – also known as Yard Sauce – an acoustic, folk, and Americana Maine-based trio, will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Brick Dwelling House at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester. Their live concerts draw from the group’s eclectic musical tastes, diverse regional folk music influences, and a deep catalog of original songs.

Singer/songwriter and classically-trained vocalist Jeff Christmas (guitar and vocals) hails from North Carolina and teaches music at Bowdoin College; Mitch Reed (fiddle) adds strong Cajun and Creole flavors from his home state of Louisiana – he played with the premier Cajun band Beausoleil for 10 years, and; Chris Moore’s (mandolins and vocals) country, bluegrass, and folk sensibilities are shaped by his upbringing in rural Maine and 10 years in Nashville. Chris has also been a lifelong student of traditional Shaker music and their concert will feature several selections from the Shaker’s vast repertoire. All three members teach at 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth.

The Brick Dwelling House is an intimate setting with superb acoustics for music and vocals where the Shakers have gathered in worship and song for 140 years. Proceeds of this concert benefit the ongoing historic preservation of the Herb House Cultural Center. The Herb House project aims to create a communal space for people to share traditional arts within the only active Shaker community in the world.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 suggested minimum donation. Seating is limited to 85. Please consider making an additional donation in your shopping cart at checkout. Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village is located at 707 Shaker Rd., New Gloucester.
