BETHEL — On Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. The Gem Theater, 48 Cross Street, will host a screening of a Maine Jewish Film Festival in Bethel.

Maine Jewish Board Vice President Katie Getchell, of Bethel and her fellow Board Member Marcel Polak of Woodstock are organizing and funding the event that Getchell said is a first for Bethel.

“This will be a remarkable opportunity for the Bethel community to feel connected to world events, and at no more critical a moment,” wrote Getchell in an email.

The Art of Silence, a documentary on legendary mime Marcel Marceau highlights his little known role saving hundreds of French Jewish children escape the Holocaust.

Polak and Leland Faulkner, of Auburn and founder of Celebration Barn Theater in Norway, will  speak briefly following the film. Polak’s family survived the Holocaust in France and Faulkner studied in the school of Marcel Marceau.

They hope families and youth groups will attend.

Tickets are $10; free to those 18 and under.
