SOUTH PARIS – Shirley C. Jones, 92, of Buckfield passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.

He was born in Buckfield on Sept. 26, 1931, the son of Percy and Leonora Bonney Jones. He graduated from Buckfield high school in 1950. Shirley served in the U. S. Army in Korea from 1950 to 1953 and married Mary Gammon on June 6, 1954. He retired from R. S. Osgood after many years. He enjoyed doing refrigeration at many local farms.

He was a member of the John D. Long Legion Post #58, a dedicated patron of the Zadoc Long Free Library and a member of the Buckfield Fire Department in the 1960s.

He had much admired vegetable gardens and loved when people would stop by when he was working in the garden.

Shirley is survived by his wife Mary; his daughters Belinda Kleeberger and husband Don and Candy Brooks and husband Tim, his son, Kirk and wife Kathy Saarinen; grandchildren Michelle, Derek, Abby and Samantha; five great-grandchildren; and his brothers Merton and Richard.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, William; and a grandson, Shane.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans Home for their care and compassion.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at Damon Cemetery in Buckfield.
