FALMOUTH — A Poland man was injured and a New Hampshire man was killed Wednesday night when their vehicles collided head-on on the Falmouth Spur, a short freeway connecting I-95 with I-295 and US Route 1 north of Portland.

Investigators said 54-year-old Raymond Giard III of Nashua, New Hampshire, was driving his Chevrolet Silverado east on the spur — on the wrong side of the roadway — when he crashed head-on into a Honda CRV driven by 49-year-old Charles Jack of Poland.

Giard was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, police said.

Jack suffered serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The crash was on the east end of the spur on the ramp area, which is not a divided highway. Police said they believe alcohol was involved in the crash, although the investigation was ongoing.

State police were assisted by the Falmouth fire and police departments.
