FARMINGTON — At the Oct. 10 selectmen meeting, by a 3-2 vote J. Wayne Kinney was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board of directors for Regional School Unit 9.

Selectmen Matthew Smith, Stephan Bunker and Dennis O’Neil were in favor. Selectmen Joshua Bell and Byron Staples were opposed.

Alexander Creznic, who had held the seat resigned in September citing personal matters as being a conflict.

Smith said Kinney was the only person to submit an application, although he had heard from three other community members who were interested.

Kinney had served on the RSU 9 board previously, chose not to seek reelection at the last town meeting.

“I know in the past we have struggled to get one person,” Smith noted.

O’Neil said while Kinney would be an experienced place holder he was not interested in running for the position.

Bell indicated he had no issue with Kinney but felt others who expressed interest could gain experience and be ahead of the game if they chose to seek election to the board.
