LEWISTON — A youth-led forum will be held next week for Lewiston municipal candidates to field questions on a variety of issues.

The Nov. 1 forum at Bates College, called “Who’s On My Ballot?,” hopes to have political contenders for mayor, City Council and the Lewiston School Committee.

“Learn more about where your local candidates stand on issues such as education, housing, and more!” organizers promise those who attend.

The Lewiston election follows months of political feuding that has created a 4-3 City Council split that recently led to the ouster of its former president and the censure of a council member who criticized the majority for a gathering at a bar that the state attorney general’s said “evidenced their lack of understanding” of state open government law.

Every council position is on the Nov. 7 ballot, alongside a four-way mayoral race and school committee elections.

The forum, which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Muskie Archives at 70 Campus Ave., in a brick building opposite the Bates College bookstore, is sponsored by the Harward Center for Community Partnerships, Community Organizing Alliance, Maine Students Vote and Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition.

Organizers said that chai, cookies and local foods will be available at the forum.
