Edward “Ted” Lambert
SOUTH PARIS – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward “Ted” Lambert on Sept. 29, 2023.
Born on Oct. 25, 1925, Ted was a beacon of strength, loyalty, and love, exemplifying the very best of “the greatest generation”.
Ted proudly served his country during World War II as a Marine, displaying tremendous courage and resilience. His bravery was on display when he was wounded during the battle of Iwo Jima, earning him the Purple Heart. For his exemplary service, he was also recognized with the Maine Governor’s Silver Star, an individual Congressional Proclamation, and a Presidential Unit Citation.
Ted was also an accomplished high school athlete. He was a state champion swimmer, shining on the medley relay team swimming the breaststroke and clinching victories as an individual medley champion.
Returning to the embrace of Maine after his military service, Ted immersed himself in his community. He played an instrumental role in laying the foundations of the Auburn Suburban Little League, and receiving the Board of Directors award in 1999 being recognized as a “Founding Father”. His unwavering support for Auburn and Edward Little High School athletics continued as he became a familiar face in the stands for many years.
Poland Spring Country Club held a special place in Ted’s heart. Initially, as a member, he played countless rounds of golf alongside his wife, Ivie, creating cherished memories on the greens. The club became the backdrop of many a summer spent with close friends and family. It was also the place where fate would lead him to his second great love, Brenda.
In personal life, Ted’s love and commitment knew no parallel. He was a devoted husband to two beautiful souls: Ivie, who succumbed to cancer, and Brenda, who passed due to dementia. Through both joys and sorrows, Ted stood steadfastly by their sides until the very end. The loss of his two beloved sons, Bryan and Bruce, only fortified his perseverance, and ability to find strength through adversity.
Ted was an affable man whose charisma and charm knew no bounds. He was instantly liked by all who had the fortune of meeting him, and deeply loved by those who truly knew him.
Ted’s legacy will also be carried on through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their memories of him will no doubt be of a stalwart, loving figure who always had a story to share and a lesson to teach.
Ted’s final days were spent at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris. In a fitting tribute to a life so fully lived, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who cherished him.
Ted’s memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. As we bid him farewell, we celebrate a life that was truly remarkable. Rest in peace, dear Ted. Your legacy will shine on for generations to come.
Services are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn. All who knew Ted, and anyone wishing to honor this true son of Auburn, are warmly welcomed.
Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Online condolences may be shared with his family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com
