100 Years Ago: 1923

An Arctic owl, a most unusual denizen of this climate, particularly at this time of year, has been seen frequently in the trees of Grant and Sherman in Portland. Amateur weather prophets of pessimistic tendencies take this to mean a long and cold winter is to be anticipated.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Brrrrr! Winter is speedily approaching in the twin cities. Sunday everyone took their winter coats out as a few brave people walked the streets. The high for the day came at 50 degrees and the low was 29 at 6am.

25 Years Ago: 1998

High winds could take the air out of the traditional procession of balloons during the Thanksgiving parade. Despite new restrictions of the balloons, Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Tuesday that the balloons will be grounded if it gets too gusty. The city should have done this in the past when the wind got out of hand, Giuliani said.
