Harold F. Bubar

AUBURN – Harold F. Bubar, 95, of Auburn, died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, at Clover Manor in Auburn.

He was born in Naugatuck, Conn., on May 12, 1928, the son of the late Steven and Marjorie (Ellis) Bubar. He made his home with his grandparents, Julian and Grace Ellis of Auburn, and attended Auburn schools.

Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army and served in the artillery unit in the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in July 1956.

He was married to Annabelle Cole on Aug. 6, 1970. He was employed at the Lewiston Sun Journal as a printer in the Composing Room until his retirement after 45 years, in 1989.

An avid bicyclist and mountain climber, he enjoyed the outdoor life, climbing 48 of the 4,000 footers in New Hampshire and all but two in Maine. He enjoyed working around their home and loved all seasons, especially fall and winter when he snowshoed and cross-country skied, along with his wife.

He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Annabelle Bubar. He was also predeceased by a brother, Donald, of Colorado, and a half-sister, Marcia Dube, of Bowdoinham.

He leaves his nephew, Jeffrey Root and his wife Diane and their children and grandchildren; as well as his niece, Julie Sawyer and her husband Scott and their children and grandchildren.

He also leaves his many kind and loving neighbors and friends who were like an extended family to him and Annabelle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Auburn.
