
John “Jack” Lee Forrest
LEWISTON – John Lee Forrest, 93, of Lewiston, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, with his daughters standing constant vigil.
He was born in Lewiston, June 24, 1930, a devoted son to Mildred Forrest and through the years they took care of each other.
Jack was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School, Dean Academy in Franklin, Mass. and New England Institute of Anatomy and Sanitary Science and Embalming in Boston, Mass. He was a proud member of the United State Marine Corp and a veteran of the Korean War. He was married to Pauline Langlois at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston in 1951 until her passing in 1986.
He started Allied Ambulance Service in 1958. In 1965, he opened an Air Ambulance, the only one of its design in New England with the goal to provide faster ambulance service between Maine and larger medical centers in Boston, Mass. and points South. In 1978, He sold Allied to Central Maine Medical Center which became United Ambulance. He purchased the Fahey Funeral Home on Pine Street in Lewiston in 1984 and operated Fahey-Forrest Funeral Home until his retirement in 2003.
He was past exalted ruler of the Lewiston Lodge of Elks, member of the Legion Post 22, First Aid Instructor with the American Red Cross and a past member and Chairman of the Lewiston School Committee.
He was an active sporting enthusiast and sponsored many local teams. He made many trips with his friends and family down to Fenway Park, always stopping at the Hilltop Restaurant.
He loved the water and spent many summers at the Dolphin Marina with his family and friends aboard his boat, aptly named Lynn-Ann. He also spent time at his camp on Sabattus Lake and later became his home in retirement.
Jack leaves behind two daughters, Ann Joy and husband Jerry of Winthrop, Lynn Forrest of Freeport, one son, James Forrest and wife Cynthia of Auburn; grandchildren, John Forrest III, Beth (Forrest) St. Laurent, Cortney (Forrest) Mortensen, Nicholas Forrest, Andrew Joy, Ashley (Joy) DeWever, Allison (Pelletier) King, Megan Pelletier and Kaitlyn (Pelletier) Beith; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, John Forrest Jr.; wife, Pauline; and his mother, Mildred.

Visitation Fortin Auburn Friday Nov. 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. Military Honors and Liturgy of the Word will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Committal will be private.
