BUCKFIELD — Voters at Tuesday’s special Town Meeting elected Peter Fickett to fill the vacancy on the Select Board.
Fickett was unopposed and received 478 votes. His term began Tuesday and will expire June 30, 2024. He is completing the three-year term held by Michael Iveson, who resigned this year.
Fickett’s wife, Sandra, is a member of the board, along with Chairman Robert Hand, Azalea Cormier and Heather Henley.
The only other article on the warrant was a request to take $40,000 from unappropriated surplus for summer roads operating expenses to pay for any road repairs during the current fiscal year, which ends next June.
Voters approved that request by a vote of 483-103.
The reason for the request is because the Drew Brook culvert replacement project went over budget by about $35,000, which depleted the account. The $40,000 taken from surplus will allow Public Works the ability to repair any potential damages and will not cost the taxpayers any extra money.
