Mystery Photo for Nov. 19, 2023. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal
We had a few people who took a shot at the location of this moose, but missed. Most, however, knew it was the life-sized wooden moose named Bullrock the Moose on the Village Green in downtown Dixfield. Bullrock is named after a local legend about a wandering moose that journeyed from the back side of Dixfield’s Sugarloaf Mountain, approached a formation known as Bull Rock on Sugarloaf and became so entranced with the beauty of the valley below that he lost his footing and plunged over the side to his death. In a random drawing from all the correct entries, Paul and Anne Bartels were picked as the winners of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. They told us it was easy to guess because they have admired their neighbor for many years. They live next door.
