Joseph L. Simard Jr.

AUBURN – Joseph L. Simard Jr., it is with great sadness that his family announce his passing on November 15, 2023 at the Androscoggin Hospice House surrounded by his loving fiancée and step daughter.

He was born in Rumford, on March 17, 1935, the son of Jospeh Simard Sr and Narie Boucher Simard. He attended Rumford Schools and enlisted in the Army in 1959. He installed telephone lines while serving in the Korean War. Shortly after returning home he began working at Boise Cascade Rumford. He worked there until his retirement in 1997.

After retirement Joe spent many happy years hunting with his brother, Bob and Anita. He enjoyed gardening and won many awards for it. Joe and Jean attended many church dinners, enjoyed ice fishing together, and attended every game of Leo, Erik and Brooke’s. He took them fishing, built birdhouses together, shared is favorite hunting spots, and was at every event holiday and birthday. He was an amazing example of being a grandfather. He was quick at lending a hand to Leo to do a project and enjoyed his talks with Lori.

He is survived by his loving fiancé Jean, his step daughter Lori and husband Leo of Dixfield, his adored grandchildren Leo Kersey IV and wife Laura of West Bath, Erik Kersey and wife Tiffany of Mexico, Brooke Averill and husband Jacob of Carthage, great grandchildren Madily, Chase, Eliza, Leo V, and Kevin Jospeh, siblings Robert Simard of Rumford, Sylvia Simard of Arizona, Theresa Webber of Florida, Connie Jacques of Arizona, Lorainne Barre of Rumford. He was predeceased by Jeannette Lote, Roger Simard, Dary Butch Simard, Irene Richard, Brandy Burgess, and Shirley Cote.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on November 28, at Holy Savior Church in Rumford at 11 a.m., followed by Military Honors.
