Madrid is set to start the holiday season off with the Madrid Community Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Madrid Historical Society Schoolhouse on the corner of Reeds Mill and Schoolhouse Roads.

Meeting inside the schoolhouse, there will be refreshments and the opportunity to make ornaments for the tree, after which all will decorate and light the tree and sing carols. The rain/snow date is Sunday, Dec. 3 at the same time.

The following Saturday, Dec. 9, Santa will hand out gift bags from 10:30-11 a.m. to Madrid’s children next to the tree. Registration for this event is required and must have been made by Sunday, Nov. 19.

On Monday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m., adult residents are invited to join together at the schoolhouse for a potluck supper and gift exchange with a $10 limit on gifts. If the weather is inclement, this might be postponed to Dec. 31 at the same time.
