A splendid 215 pound buck shot by Clayton Hamilton of Auburn at Lake Costigan is the envy of passersby as it hangs on exhibition at Wells Sporting Goods Store on Court Street in Auburn.

50 Years Ago: 1973

The senate is close to a vote on President Nixon’s nomination of Gerald R. Ford as vice president. A roll call vote was set for late afternoon, with only one senator having announced he would vote against confirmation of the veteran Michigan congressman.

Ford was nominated by President Nixon Oct 12 to replace Spiro T. Agnew, who resigned after pleading no contest to a charge of income tax evasion.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Construction of the Home Depot Store on Mount Auburn Avenue will require  a number of road improvements, paid for by the company, including new right-turn-only lanes added to Mount Auburn Avenue at Turner and Center Streets and an extension to the center turning lane from Wal-Mart to the Home Depot. The city will pay for improvements at Mount Auburn Avenue and Gracelawn Road and Park Avenue and Park Avenue and Summer Street.
