Robert A. Knox

AUBURN – With profound sorrow we announce the passing of Robert A. Knox, “Bumpa”, 83, resident of Auburn. He peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Born in Rumford on July 13, 1940, he was the cherished son of Merle Knox, Sr., and Gladys (Babb) Knox. Robert graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford in 1960.

His journey traversed the landscapes of Peru, Buckfield, Livermore, Turner, Auburn, and beyond. His story unfolded against the backdrop of these varied locales, each chapter contributing to the rich tapestry of his life. He started his career as a driver with Pepsi, and then became the proud owner and operator of 5-K Pizza in Phillips and Buckfield followed by ‘Our Place’ in Bridgton. In his later years, he became a dedicated life coach for Weight Watchers as he touched countless lives with his wisdom and guidance. Throughout the years, Robert was a die-hard New England sports fan, finding joy in the victories of each season.

Embedded in the profound love bestowed upon him by his Grandmother, Betsy Babb, was the genesis of Robert’s ability to love others deeply. His steadfast commitment to being present at his children’s ventures acted as a concrete testament to the unwavering support and genuine presence he consistently provided throughout their lives. This sentiment extended not only to his children but also found its echo in the special bond he shared with his granddaughters, Taylor and Chantel.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Michelle Sawyer and husband Joseph, Kimberley Eells and husband Bruce all of Turner, and his son Peter Knox of Buckfield. His grandchildren, Taylor Ouellette and husband Kyle, Chantel Madden and wife Jill, Rylee Knox and wife Emily, and Mitchell, Brooke and Gabby Knox, and great-granddaughter Aspen Knox. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Knox of East Peru.

Robert was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Merle, Elwin, and twin brother Richard Knox. As we remember and celebrate the life of Robert A.
