FARMINGTON — The historic sanctuary of Old South First Congregational Church, UCC, at 235 Main St., will be open to all for candlelit contemplation during Advent, the weeks leading to Christmas.
Visitors are welcome to light a candle to accompany their meditations and prayers.
At times the sanctuary is quite cool; simple acrylic throw blankets are available to borrow.
The sanctuary is set to be open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in December, beginning Dec. 7. People should use the church’s south side door (to the left of the Main Street doors; signs will indicate the entrance).
For more information, call the church at 207-778-0424.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
