To the Editor:

Today I began to walk again! Really walk!

More than two months ago I fell and broke my hip. I am still adjusting to the reality that I can wander down to my brook, visit the field and meander into the forest even as the snow begins to fall … I am convinced that without the generous support and attention of some incredibly kind people I would not be writing this letter of thanks.

My beloved Vet Dr. Gary Stuer has been my Rock. Between Gary and the dedicated staff of the Bethel Animal Hospital, my dogs would not have had a home.

Sue Lowe, Boonie Pooley, Julie Refif, Moira Eliot, James and Katherine Reddoch shopped and brought me wonderful nourishing food, some already prepared when I was still so emaciated, and too weak to cook for myself.

James did chores around the house and hooked up dehumidifiers so they ran continuously when I first returned home. Mary Mcfadden and Larry Stiffler made sure I had a wheelchair and Mary’s honey, blueberry jam, cookies, velvety wine, bathrobe, socks, and visits meant more than I can say.

Caring courageous women have also taken me to doctor’s appointments – hauling me up the hill in a wheelchair! Last, and not least, I include my friend Art Henley. His attentions are too long to list but began with taking care of my house Lily b my bird (that he calls Oscar) who was left here all alone with my plants and and house while I was hospitalized. Now he’s the snowblower man! YAY.

With this kind of support, healing cannot help to occur, and I owe a debt of deep gratitude to all these people who understand the meaning of compassion and community on a level some cannot comprehend.
