OTISFIELD — A Community Live Nativity will be presented at 5 p.m. Saturday at Field of Faith on Lodge Hill, 437 Bean Road.

The hourlong reenactment of the birth of Jesus will feature a reading of the Christmas story, costumed Biblical characters, live animals and a choir.

Ken and Jen Hawley have offered their Field of Faith on Lodge Hill venue, a renovated barn, for the presentation.

Spurr’s Corner Church on Route 121 is coordinating the event, with assistance from the East Otisfield Baptist Church, Oxford Advent Christian Church in Oxford and community members.

“When we moved here in April we were praying for this,” Ken said Wednesday. “We said ‘we must have a Live Nativity.’ It was confirmation that we’re supposed to be here.”

The couple bought the former hunting lodge that was built in the 1930s and the surrounding 10 acres.

“Our purpose is to do as many things for the community as possible,” Ken said, including band concerts, car shows and festivals. Last summer and in the fall they hosted young adults from Oxford and several other counties, Ken said.

Their home is next to the barn, which they rent for weddings and similar gatherings and celebrations. A large outdoor patio, lighted stage and fire pit have been built next to the barn.

For the Live Nativity, the cast of characters includes the baby, mother and father, shepherds, angels, wise men and King Herod. Along with a lighting crew and others, the ensemble numbers about two dozen, Jen said.

The pageant is free of charge for the public. Upon arriving at Field of Faith, there will be a marked and lighted parking area with attendants to direct drivers, and escorts to bring people from the parking area to the barn. Those attending are asked to arrive by 4:45 p.m. so the Nativity can begin on time.

After the pageant, homemade foods and hot chocolate will be served on the patio next to the fire pit.
