Gerald “Gerry” R. Langelier

AUBURN – Gerald “Gerry” R. Langelier passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023. 

Gerry was born on July 31, 1938, in Lewiston, a son of Gerard and Fernande (Ouellette) Langelier. He attended St. Peter’s School in Lewiston and St. Francis in Biddeford, graduating in 1956. In October of 1961, Gerry entered the Army where he was enlisted for three years, before being honorably discharged in 1964. After his time in the Army, Gerry went back to school, attending the University of Maine at Portland, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in May of 1972. 

He spent many years working in his parent’s store, Langelier and Sons Market. He also worked for Bates Mill Manufacturing for many years as a cost accountant, before starting his own tax accounting service company, Langelier and Associates where he worked until his retirement. 

Gerry married the love of his life, Pauline Gendron Langelier on September 3rd, 1962. They met at the grocery store where Pauline was delivering milk for her family’s business, Gendron Farm. They raised two children and built a beautiful life together. 

When he had free time, he spent it very well. Gerry loved to travel, visiting many interesting places like Europe and Fiji. He also loved driving his 1969 Oldsmobile 442, one of his most prized possessions. His favorite place to be however, was his family camp on Taylor Pond.

Gerry loved his community and did anything he could to support it. He spent time as an Altar Boy in his younger years, volunteered for the Junior Achievement Program and spent many years volunteering for the Franco American Heritage Center. He was also a member of the Community Credit Union’s Board of Directors, and a proud member of the American Legion (Post 153). 

Gerry was an exceptional man and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

He is predeceased by his parents, his twin brothers Roger and Robert Langelier, his father and mother in law Arthur and Blanche Gendron, his brother in laws Dan Levesque and Arthur Gates, as well as his sister in law Linda Langelier and his nephew Michael Desrosier. 

Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Pauline Langelier, his daughter Celeste and husband Victor Mathieu, his son Don and fiancé Julie Nolan, his grandchildren Melissa and husband Victor Plaza, Bianca Langelier and Brian and his wife Krista Mathieu. Gerry also leaves behind his great grandchildren Leo Plaza and Graham Mathieu and his brother George and wife Carol Langelier. Lastly, he leaves behind his in laws Lucille Langelier, Connie Levesque, Lucille Gates, Theresa and Roger Desrosier, Patricia and Bertrand Labonte, Roger Gendron, Monique Gendron, and Diane and Jeff Hutchinson as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to recognize Bianca Langelier for the care she provided to her Pepere at home. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the Androscoggin Home Health & Hospice and Palliative Teams for their care and compassion given to Gerry.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 14, from 4-7 p.m., at The Fortin Group Funeral Home in Auburn. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, December 15, at 11 a.m., at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in the Upper Church.
