DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was not able to get the link to work for Tommy’s Feral Felines (Dec. 12 Sun Spots). Thank you for checking. — Lew, no town

ANSWER: I investigated the issue and the organization is in the process of recreating its website. You can go here: https://www.tommysferalfelinefriends.com/ and get the physical address to send a donation in the mail to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends, P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME, 04236-0274, or hit the yellow “donate” bottom on the website to pay with your credit card on PayPal.

The organization also has a big presence on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/tommysferalfelinefriends) with wonderful updates. Whoever is doing the writing on that site should be congratulated for doing such a beautiful job. I love reading the soothing, gentle posts and admiring the art that goes along with them. Check it out!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have an unused Christmas Tree Shop gift certificate and I’m hoping that you can give me some information as to where I can write or e-mail to find out if it’s possible to get reimbursed. Thank you for any help you can give me and for providing so much good information on so many subjects. — No name, Greene

ANSWER: I responded to another reader about this very thing Nov. 13. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this past summer, an announcement was issued that the gift cards could not be used after July 21. It stated, “Consumers should act quickly and get their money’s worth now, especially since you should not necessarily expect to receive a refund or any other compensation from the store.”

My advice to everyone, especially these days: when you get a gift card, use it as soon as possible!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What happened to Sarah Long on WMTW 8 weather? Thanks for always being there when needed! — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: I answered this in the Dec. 8 Sun Spots. According to Sarah’s Facebook page, she is on an extended leave of absence from WMTW. There are no further details. We all love her, so let’s allow her and her family some privacy. I’m sure we’ll get the full story when she and the station are ready to share it.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do eggs go bad? — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: The answer is yes, but also the expiration date on your carton of eggs is just there to ensure quality. You can eat eggs two months out of date.

If you crack them open after the date has passed, you may notice they don’t taste as good, but you’re not at risk of illness.

However, if the yolk or white has any discoloration or just looks out of the ordinary, (for example if the yolks are flatter and discolored and the egg whites are thinner/more watery than usual) the eggs are no good. Discoloration is an indication of bacterial growth. If your eggs look fine but have an off or sulfuric smell to them, they are bad.

Of course, you don’t want to take a chance and eat a cracked egg either unless, let’s say, it got cracked in transit from the store, and you eat it within a day.
