A man died Sunday in a fire at an Old Town apartment building, authorities said.
Old Town firefighters responded to the fire at 1015 Stillwater Ave. just after 5 a.m., said Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Firefighters were able to remove Banton Foster, 71, from the burning building and transport him to a hospital, but he died there from his injuries, Moss said.
A resident in another apartment was able to get out safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office. There were working smoke detectors in the building, Moss said.
