Cleon Eugene Merrill

PERU – Cleon Eugene Merrill passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, with his loving family by his side. He was a resident of Peru.

Cleon was born in Dixfield, on May 29, 1941, and was a son of Claude and Gertrude (Welch) Merrill. He married Carolyn Dennis on Aug. 25, 1962, and established a homestead in Peru.

Cleon worked for the Railroad and the Diamond Match as a Security Guard for many years. When Diamond Match closed, he worked construction until his retirement. Following his retirement Cleon volunteered and organized the GRAMPS program for many years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family, neighbors, and community. He was a loved and respected man.

Cleon is survived by his wife Carolyn of Peru, his children, Douglas and wife Brenda of Tennessee, Tammy Martin and husband Dennis of Norway, Crystal Brennick of Augusta, Scott and wife Tracy of Turner, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren with one on the way, siblings, Edda and Margaret Merrill, Paul and Carol Merrill, Caddy Merrill, Lorraine and Charlie Plaisted, Lois Bellegarde. He was predeceased by siblings, Leon Merrill, Eleanor Leo, Irvin Merrill, Erwin Merrill, Melvin Merrill, Carolyn Collins, Marilyn Batchelor, Laura Brown, and Frances Holmquist.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St Rumford.
