BETHEL — The boil water order that has been in place for nearly a week was lifted Wednesday morning by the Bethel Water District.

Residents were also told last week to conserve water due to a major leak in one of the town’s pipes. Several homes had low water pressure or no water at all. Those without were able to pick up a case of water last Thursday through Monday at the Bethel Chamber of Commerce.

The town announced Friday morning that the source of the leak was located, and water had been restored to some sections of town while the leak was being fixed. Some areas were still plagued by low water pressure, such as Paradise Road, and remained that way until the reservoir’s water level returned to normal.

It was determined that 3.5 times the amount of daily water usage in Bethel had leaked out of the system, totaling 500,000 gallons, according to Scott Fraser, chairman of the board of trustees for the Bethel Water District.

The conserve water order was lifted Tuesday at noon, while the boil water order remained in effect while testing of the water continued until Wednesday morning.
