LEWISTON — The mayoral inaugural and elected officials’ Oath of Office Ceremony will take place Tuesday, city officials announced this week. 

The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Franco Center at 46 Cedar St. and will be followed by a dessert reception at the center. All members of the public are invited to attend to acknowledge the newly elected and returning members of Lewiston city government. 

Elected officials taking their oath include Mayor-elect Carl L. Sheline, members of the City Council and members of the School Committee.  

The 2024 incoming councilors are Joshua L. Nagine, Ward 1; Susan G. Longchamps, Ward 2; Scott A. Harriman, Ward 3; Michael R. Roy, Ward 4; Eryn M. Soule-Leclair, Ward 5; David B. Chittim, Ward 6; and Timothy J. Gallant, Ward 7.

Members of the 2024 School Committee are Megan D. Parks, Member At-Large; Jean Phoenix Irons McLaughlin, Ward 1; Janet I. Beaudoin, Ward 2, Elizabeth A. Eames, Ward 3; Craig G. Charpentier, Ward 4; Ashley R. Medina, Ward 5; Meghan P. Hird, Ward 6 and Donna M. Gallant, Ward 7. 

Sheline will present his inaugural address, highlighting his goals and objectives for the city for the next three years. The City Council will elect its president and the School Committee will elect a cairperson.

Both officials will present brief speeches as well. Printed copies of the three speeches will be available for the media Tuesday evening before the ceremony.

The evening will begin with students from Lewiston High School performing the national anthem. Local clergy will deliver the invocation and benediction.

Members of the Lewiston Police Department and Lewiston Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as the Color Guard and present the flags. The combined unit will also officially escort the mayor-elect during the entrance procession of elected officials. 

The Lewiston High School a capella group, The Blue Notes, will perform and an ensemble from the Bates College Music Department will perform an instrumental piece.

The ceremony is scheduled to be livestreamed and the link will be available on the city’s website at www.lewistonmaine.gov. 

Catering for the dessert reception after the ceremony is provided by the Lewiston Regional Technical Center culinary arts students.

The Franco Center is handicapped accessible, and parking is available across the street in the Continental Mill lot, with event parking signs.
