Maine is due for mild temperatures Wednesday, but snow is heading toward the state.

Wednesday will be pretty nice. Highs will be around 40 with quiet conditions and partly cloudy skies.

Thursday brings some minor snow chances. A cold front will move through Maine during the day, and a coastal storm will form offshore and quickly push away from the state.

Most don’t see accumulation, but some light amounts are possible in the mountains, as well as Midcoast and Down East Maine. The front then pulls in cold air Thursday night, we turn quite cold by the weekend.

Things clear out for Friday, but we turn cold.

Highs will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s.

SUNDAY SNOW

A coastal storm will pass south of New England on Sunday, bringing the chance for widespread snowfall. As of Wednesday, current thinking favors heaviest snow amounts to the south of Maine. Several inches of snow still look possible across southern and central Maine however, and while models are in fairly good agreement, there is still some track discrepancy.

A closer track to Maine would favor higher totals and more northward extent of the snow, a further away track would favor lower snow and a cutoff somewhere in southern Maine. As of this time, southern Maine is most likely to see several inches, with a sharp drop off in snow as you head north. We’ll continue to fine tune where this cutoff is likely to be over the next few days.

After the storm moves out Sunday evening, things clear out for Monday, remaining chilly in the 20s. Clouds then build back in Tuesday- another storm looks to arrive next Wednesday.
