A man appeared at the office of the tax collector, George H. Willis, on Thursday and wanted to saw some wood to pay his poll tax. He was given the opportunity and complimented for his willingness to work.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Le Montagnard Club celebrates its golden anniversary this weekend. The Lewiston club will hold the event at their Maple Street headquarters Saturday, followed by sporting events Sunday at No Name Pond.
25 Years Ago: 1999
The Community Little Theater of Lewiston/Auburn announces a special promotion in connection with the opening of Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” which will open at 8 pm, Jan 15 at the Performing Arts Center. Anyone purchasing a ticket for the 2pm Sunday matinee will be entitled to a discount to matinees of the remaining season shows, “Guys and Dolls” and “A Shayna Maidel,” instead of the usual $10, matinee tickets will be $7.50 for patrons holding ticket stubs from “The Mousetrap” matinee.
