DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have an off-white Thomasville sofa. It’s 80 inches long, has three cushions, and is clean and in very good condition. I’d like to give this to someone who needs it. You must be able to pick it up. Please call 743-7886. — Rebecca, South Paris

ANSWER: That’s so generous and I’m sure this will get snatched up immediately. Let us know how it goes.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: At the SHAREcenter, we share Rescued Reusable Resources. We let our donors know the needs of our schools and organizations on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/auburnsharecenter.

We love posting pictures of our happy members gathering items. There are so many great project ideas that can be created with materials gathered from our centers, all found on our Facebook site.

On the page, we let everyone know dates and times we’re open to members and donors as well as posting updates of new items. Most importantly, we want to let people know our SHAREcenter mission is to support Maine’s environment, education, and a circular economy.

We are asking you to please share with your friends and families what we do, who we serve and where we are. The more people are aware of our Community Caring for Community program, the more children and families we can help. — No name, no town

ANSWER: For those who don’t know, SHAREcenter was established over 30 years ago and partners with multiple Maine schools and other nonprofit organizations through a membership program to distribute rescued, reusable resources that come to the facility.

Very similar to the Good Shepard model, where they distribute food items to other organizations, SHAREcenter  at 1830 Lisbon St. in Lewiston redistributes rescued nonperishables to other groups and their staff for use in their programs. They also connect members to offsite locations for direct pickup.

Donations made to SHAREcenter benefit multiple schools, nonprofit programs and organizations serving the educational, emotional and economic needs of children, families and individuals throughout the state.

They focus on environmental concerns by redistributing still valuable items into the hands of those in need, keeping these goods out of overflowing landfills. A donation to SHAREcenter doesn’t serve just one nonprofit but multiple schools and organizations that are part of their membership program.

If you know of a school, home-schooler, scouting council, child care center, or nonprofit that could benefit from the SHAREcenter, please send them over. Donations don’t benefit just one organization but are shared by hundreds. Contact them if you have any questions about membership or anything else.

Drop-offs can be made through the door on the Gould Street side of the SHAREcenter building, next to the Apparel Impact bin. If you have large quantities of items or furniture to donate, please send a private message on the Facebook page, call 333-6671, or email Lrodrigues@auburnschl.edu to give them advance notice.

The SHAREcenter is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2-5 p.m. and on the first two Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to noon.
