MEXICO — An early morning fire Friday on Highland Terrace left a family homeless.

The fire was reported at 2:12 a.m. at 139 Highland Terrace. The first crews from Mexico Fire Department, Rumford Fire Department and Med-Care Ambulance saw flames from the roof.

A second alarm was issued, prompting mutual aid from Roxbury, Dixfield and Peru fire departments.

“Although the fire proved to be stubborn due to the building’s modified architecture, interior attack crews contained a majority of the fire damage to two rooms and the attic/roof area. However, heavy water and overall damage to the rest of the dwelling have deemed the structure uninhabitable,” according to a post on the Mexico Fire Department’s Facebook page.

There was no immediate information on the cause of the fire.

According to the post, also providing assistance was the Mexico Police Department, Mexico Water, Central Maine Power and the American Red Cross.
