Clarinetist Brad Terry, left, and guitarist Peter Herman.

Jazz legend Brad Terry accompanied by Peter Herman on guitar will perform at the Oasis of Music beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Trinity Commons in Lewiston.

Terry and Herman are a clarinet and guitar jazz duo that has been together since 2013. Their playful and conversational approach to playing jazz standards is a balance of finding new ways to play old tunes as well as honoring the deep tradition of jazz music. Terry grew up in Connecticut next door to Benny Goodman and later lived in New York playing and hanging with some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians. He has played with Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Swallow, Roger Kellaway, Red Mitchell, Lenny Breau, Buddy Tate and Buck Clayton to name a few. He now resides in Maine and plays out when he can.

Herman grew up in Mount Vernon, and studied music at the University of Maine at Augusta. Through the mentorship of Steve Grover, he met Terry and formed a duo that has performed ever since. They have toured Amsterdam and Poland as well as throughout New England.

The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. Trinity Commons is located at 247 Bates St., Lewiston. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
