MECHANIC FALLS — The Town Council unanimously approved a three-year contract extension with Town Manager Vic Hodgkins at Monday night’s session.

Hodgkins has served in that capacity since 2021. The extension runs until June 30, 2027.

Hodgkins’ salary will increase from $71,000 to $90,000 on July 1, 2024, then $95,000 the following year and $100,000 for the third year.

His health, dental and vision insurance will be provided in accordance with the town’s personnel policy.

In other business, Hodgkins said a “gentleman’s agreement” was arranged between the Public Works Department and the Sanitary District.

The Sanitary District agrees to compensate the town $250 an hour when additional manpower and/or equipment is needed from Public Works.

The council still needs to decide if this revenue would be added to the undesignated fund balance or allocated specifically to the Public Works Department.

Hodgkins informed the council that the town “fared quite well” in the December storm, with only the culvert on Brown Road requiring some tree and brush removal.

The council renewed The Little Brick Pub’s liquor and amusement license, and renewed amusement licenses for American Legion Post 150 and the Silver Spur.

Cannabis licenses were also renewed for High Rollers and 420 Pharma.

Council Chairwoman Tarsha Downing and resident Beau Fairbrother were appointed to serve on Regional School Unit 16’s Strategic Plan Team. The team will update and prioritize the school district’s five-year plan to align with the evolving needs of the district’s students, buildings and community.

A town official and a resident from each of the three district towns — Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland — will join the RSU 16 superintendent, administrators, teachers and school directors on the team.
