To the Editor:

A follow-up to Rose Lincoln’s comprehensive January 4 article about the Bethel Library and our imminent new arrival: Oscar Arciga was born January 5, and we appreciate the warm welcome by so many.

The library could not provide the welcoming, creative, and educational space described in Rose’s article without strong support from our community. Established by volunteers in 1879, the Bethel Library Association is a private non-profit, with an all-volunteer Board and six employees.  We receive funding from Bethel, Newry, Gilead, and Greenwood, but most of our budget is from private donations.

I’d like to give special recognition to the companies have have been steady supporters, and to those who have recently joined our team. Hearty thanks to Bethel Kitchen Design, the Good Food Store, Glidden Foodliner, Mahoosuc Realty, Maine Line Products, Mainely Provisions, Mountain Greenery, Northeast Bank, Norway Savings Bank, Pooh Corner Farm and Wheelers Insurance Agency.

Library cards are free for residents (including part-timers) in our supporting towns and available for a nominal fee to visitors. We’ve recently joined a bigger inter-library loan network and also have a vast range of digital books available for download. Stop by for a visit and see what’s new!
