James “Jim” Edward Brown Sr.

BOSTON, Mass. – It is with deep sadness that the family of James “Jim” Edward Brown Sr. announces his passing on Dec. 31, 2023, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. following complications from Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

Jim was born May 21, 1944, in Freeport, to Dorothy (Cummings) Brown and Sherwin E. Brown. He attended school at Freeport High School, leaving when he was 17 years old to join the U.S. Air Force. He received his GED while in the service. He was stationed at Command Headquarters in Washington, D.C. from 1961-1965. He joined the Portland Police Department where he worked from 1966-1967, transferring to Yarmouth Police Department until 1968. In 1968, he joined Sea and Shore Fisheries (now known as Marine Patrol) where he served as a patrol officer until 1977. At that time, he was able to transfer to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife where he proudly served as a Maine Game Warden serving on the dive team, retiring in 1995. After retirement, he worked as a security officer for the court system and then worked as the Southern Maine Trail’s Coordinator for the Department of Conservation.

In 1980, he met his soul mate, Terri Jean Morrissette Brown, and they were wed on June 13, 1981. Together, they raised a beautiful, blended family that always surrounded him with love.

Jim LOVED the outdoors and was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, riding his ATV or snowmobiling. In the past he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife in tow and many times with the sidecar carrying one of his beloved Chesapeake Bay retrievers. For many years, they belonged to the Blue Knights motorcycle club, and enjoyed many trips to several states.

With his wife of 42 years, he enjoyed traveling to many different places, including his favorite trip to Israel in 1984. This trip, spiritually, changed his life forever. For the past nine years, they were lucky enough to become “snow birds” and live “snow free” in St. Cloud, Florida for the winter and back to their beloved Maine for the summer.

He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Andy Valley Co 8742 and a Mason with the Tyrian Lodge #0073.

He is survived by his loving wife, Terri; his son, James Edward Brown Jr. and wife Lisa, son, Richard N. Cummings, Jr. and wife Pamela, daughter, Nicole D. Tyler and partner Oliver Johnson and daughter, Ana (Francia) Rodriguez Hernandez. He also is survived by six grandchildren, Kyle Rainey and wife Abby, Kaitlyn Rourke and husband Chanse, Nicolas Cummings, Keenan Tyler, James Dean Brown, and Cole Brown. He leaves behind his loving in-laws Bonnie McAllister, Mitchell and Bonnie Morrissette and Michael and Barbara Morrissette and several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Kenneth Brown.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Norway, with reception to follow in the church hall. A private burial will be held in the spring.
