RUMFORD – Cheryl A. (Benjamin) Thomas, 62, passed away at her home after a long illness on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024. She was the wife of Everett L. Thomas III.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1961, in South Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late Francis and Shirley (Godbout) Benjamin. She grew up in Boston attending local area schools and graduated from South Boston High School. After high school she obtained her master’s degree in Criminal Technology from Suffolk University in Boston.
Cheryl used her degree and became a juvenile parole officer in the City of Boston before retiring, due to illness. She and her husband moved up to Rumford in 2018.
She was known as to many as the “card lady”, as she sent out cards to many folks for all kinds of special occasions. She enjoyed shopping and crocheting. She was always working on something for someone else. Baking sweets was her specialty.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her grandson, Michel Long of Lewiston; as well as three brothers, Frank Benjamin and his wife Margie of Boston, George Benjamin and his wife Lisa of Florida and John Benjamin of Quincy, Mass., a sister, Donna Benjamin of Randolph, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Michel Benjamin.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
