Milder temperatures are in store for the start of the work week in Maine. Things turn more active Tuesday night with a round of light snow heading into Wednesday, and we look to remain unsettled through the end of the work week.

Monday will bring afternoon clouds and temps above freezing for the first time in seven days. Highs will be in the mid or even upper 30s.

A round of light snow gets going on Tuesday evening, likely in the late evening. Light snow will continue through Wednesday morning, tapering off Wednesday afternoon.

As of right now, southern and western Maine have the best chance of seeing a couple inches of snow with 1-3 inches expected. Further north, dry air will limit snow accumulation so a coating to an inch looks more likely for central and eastern Maine. Wednesday will be a colder day, temps remain in the 20s to around 30.

Another round of precipitation moves in Wednesday night into Thursday. This could have more of an impact due to the potential for freezing rain. Freezing rain will be possible away from the coast through the morning hours Thursday, especially towards the mountains. At the coastline, the potential for icing looks lower due to temps rising above freezing.

We’ll see several rounds of precipitation through Friday early afternoon. Some of this could fall as freezing rain or a mix, especially inland and mountains. Exact timing, precip types, and amounts remain up in the air, but there could be icy conditions at times Thursday and Friday for many in Maine.

The weekend will be quieter with still mild temps. Highs may reach the 40s in many areas Saturday, with cooler temps Sunday. Colder air looks to return early next week.
