PARIS — An Auburn man was arrested Monday on charges that he broke into and stole items from the United States Post Office at 39 Tremont St. on Paris Hill.

Winston O. McLeod, 30, of 138 Pleasant St., Auburn, was arrested Monday on charges of criminal mischief, burglary, violation of condition of release and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer by the Paris Police Department.
According to Paris Police Chief Michael Dailey, the arrest occurred in Rumford, and McLeod was brought to the Oxford County Jail in Paris.
Authorities from the United States Postal Inspection Service picked up McLeod and brought him to a facility in New Hampshire, jail Administrator Capt. Dana Dillingham said.
The branch post office was broken into sometime between Saturday evening, Jan. 13 and Sunday, Jan. 14, when the break-in was discovered. Stolen items included mail and equipment. According to social media reports, that equipment included keys and a stamp machine.
Postal inspectors are expected to release more information on the arrest and charges, Dailey said.
