WOODSTOCK — To applause from her classmates, third grader Thea Cannatella, headed to the stage at Woodstock Elementary School cafetorium to accept a prestigious art contest award.

She won $500 in the Horace Mann planning calendar art contest, presented at an all-school gathering Dec. 19.

She was the only winner in the state and was one of four finalists in the country.

A $500 “donors choose” was awarded to the school, too.
