BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL WORLD TOUR
The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will return for its twenty-second year to Portland at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10, at the State Theatre in Portland. There will be different lineups of films each night. The Banff program, including the intermission, is approximately three hours.
This year’s selection of sixteen films screened over two nights showcases over 2 hours of cinematography telling powerful stories that reflect a wide range of mountain experiences and portraits from mountain sports, culture and mountain environment to adventure. Some highlights of the films that will be previewed:
Subterranean (2023, Canada) Best Film: Adventure – Two gritty teams of hobbyist cavers are poised to break records for the longest and deepest caves in Canada. From abyssal, muddy crawls to heart-pounding, vertical pits, and underwater squeezes, these are places where no person has been before.
Eternal Flame (2023, Switzerland) Best Film: Mountain Sports – Following in the footsteps of pioneer jumpers from 1990, French BASE jumpers Eric Jamet and Antoine Pecher jump from the top of the Nameless Tower in Pakistan after climbing the Eternal Flame route
Fuego (2023, France) – Kilian Bron rides from the foot of the Fuego volcano the day before its historic eruption, to the colorful facades of Barrio Chualluma in La Paz, through the geological formations of the Valle de las Animas
Sea to Sky Trail Series: Progression (2022, Canada) – Lately runners have progressed, drawing from the world of alpinism, rock climbing, and running and tackling technical terrain in a way we’ve never seen… the iconic Sea to Sky trail.
Selected from over 400 entries, this year’s tour features a collection of the most inspiring and thought-provoking action, environmental, and adventure mountain films with stops in 550 locations in 40 countries in all seven continents.
